Design Services

Limited availability on a project by project basis

I am a graduate Mechanical Engineer busy with my Masters degree and I expect to register as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA. Owing to academic commitments, I do not offer full time design services. I accept smaller projects and consulting work at my discretion, subject to my workload.

Pricing is offered on a fixed, per project basis. If the scope is not sufficiently defined, a short paid scoping phase may be proposed to establish deliverables and a fixed amount.

What I do

Concept to Print

Development of manufacturable models from sketches and ideas, suitable for additive manufacturing.

Design for Additive Manufacturing

Advice and design work regarding geometry, tolerances, joints, orientation, supports, and post-processing for print quality and reliability.

CAD Model Modification

Modifying a CAD model is considered design work when it involves meaningful changes to function or geometry.

Light Reverse Engineering

Measurement and recreation of simple parts for fit, replacement, or integration with other components.

Making a model print ready, for example watertightness, mesh repair, and build plate layout without major design changes, is not considered a design service.

Important Boundaries

Scope I will not accept

  • University or college design class projects, including partial contributions to such projects.
  • Projects that do not intend to use my printing services, as this falls outside the scope of the business and can create complications with my candidate engineer status.

Consulting and hands on work

Engagements may consist of consulting only or consulting with CAD execution. Deliverables are agreed in advance, for example STEP files, STL files, drawings, or print ready build files.

ECSA and safety critical work

I am a soon to be Candidate Engineer. I do not provide professional sign off or assume responsibility for safety critical or regulated designs. All advice and outputs are intended for prototypes and non safety critical applications unless expressly agreed in writing.

How it works

  1. Initial brief. Provide a short description, intended use, sketches or photos, approximate dimensions, and any constraints.
  2. Scope and quotation. I confirm the scope and deliverables, and provide a fixed project price. A short paid scoping phase may be used if required.
  3. Execution and reviews. I share interim checkpoints for timely feedback so that the design remains aligned with requirements.
  4. Handover and printing. I deliver the agreed files and, where required, proceed with in house printing under a separate print quotation.

Standard business terms apply regarding quotation validity, deposits, timelines, and marketing usage. See the Terms and Conditions for details.

Pricing and payment

  • Fixed per project pricing based on scope and deliverables.
  • If the brief is not sufficiently defined, a short paid scoping phase may be used to confirm the fixed price.
  • Printing is quoted and billed separately and is fulfilled in house.
  • Payment terms are agreed upon in writing on a per-job basis.
